Just a Quickie….

Here’s my latest progress on Beacon House:

BH13

I finished that window, started the (rein)deer, and started filling in all that snow. And realized that there is a whole middle section of chart-age between this sheet and the right side sheet. I’m starting to implement floss-saving measures now, even though I have the called-for amounts of skeins. I think it uses less floss to stitch large swathes of color (like the snow) at an angle, rather than horizontal line back & forth. You don’t have to carry over to the beginning of the new stitch as far: at an angle, if you end your stitch correctly, you only have to go up or down one stitch to start the next. Try it!

I made these babies for stitching last week:

carrot cake cupcake

Joanne Chang’s Carrot Cake Cupcakes, from her “Flour” cookbook. (This was to satisfy a craving for cream cheese frosting- %^P)

We were also introduced to Deborah’s new puppy, Stella. Such a sweet little thing! She didn’t even make a peep! and soooo soft! Nothing like a new puppy and a cupcake to make a night of friends and stitching just about perfect!

HaHa! Another video!

I didn’t have my sound on (at work- shhh!) so I don’t know how noisy this is. I found it on this blog, which looks interesting.  It was a Blogger Blog-of-Note back in November.

Too Hot….

to stitch, to cook, to sleep, to think…

Poor Chickie- her medicine seems to be working. I’ve started the oral medication; she’s only tolerating the oil on her food. It’s a good thing the steroids make her ravenous! Here she is soaking up some fan-age:

cool chickie

She’ll actually have her nose right up to the fan. I tried to get a picture but she moved.

Here’s Quaker Halloween, from last week’s efforts:

CS Quaker Halloween17

I lucked out tonight—I had just put 4 pieces of chicken (poultry, not dog) in the oven as the rainstorms started going overhead. And the lights went out, but only for a minute. Phew! That was a close one!

Cranky Pants….

I’ve not had a good night sleep in literally a year. I waken somewhere between 1 am and 3, then either stay awake until 4 or so, and/or fall back into disturbingly detailed (yes I remember them!) dreams until my alarm goes off at 5:15 am. Last night was no exception- I checked the clock at 2:23 am. I was hearing an annoying mechanical drone coming from off in the distance, that continued on the WHOLE FREEEKIN’ NIGHT. Sometimes I can hear the MBTA trains warming up at the train yard, but this wasn’t quite the same noise, plus, around 4 am, I DID hear the trains moving about from the train yard to the station, including the crossing bells, in addition to the drone. I seriously was SO close to getting in my car at 3:30 to drive around until I found the source of the noise, and then batter the culprit to death with my aluminum baseball bat. The noise was like a huge vacuum hum.  I have no idea how far away it actually was; the train yard is about 2 miles away, the train station about 3/4 of a mile.

ARRG!!!!I’m getting totally annoyed just remembering it! I was extremely cranky at work today. (And tired). My boss has been omnipresent in the office for 2 weeks straight. He’s had a head cold (poor snookums) and hasn’t gotten back to his gym schedule. We’ve gotten in a bunch of new jobs (YAY! Economy is doing something!), so I’ve been busy, but he keeps back-seat  drafting and today I was ready to whack him upside the head with a drafting scale. Gawd- I needed some chocolate!

The guacamoles presented me with this last night:

IMG_0257 A new stitching bag! Just because! Monogrammed! And custom embroidered with a horse! It has a pocket on the opposite side for holding my chocolate or orts.

I worked on these last night at Jeanne’s:

I made Salmon Cakes for my supper (and Diabetic boy). Here are 2 mooches:

Em gets to open up crates of new products to accept or reject shipment, then price & tag for warehousing. She gets to see all the new stuff before it literally hits the shelves.

“Christmas at Hawk Run Hollow” is from my barn owner; all the rest is from the kids-“Hello Cupcakes!” and “Bent Objects” AND (!!!!!!!!) “The Pioneer Woman Cooks”, fleece jammie bottoms and a fleece jacket. The jacket matches the camera- HA!

I went to my stitching store closing sale today and got this:

out of business sale

more Thread Gatherers silks, the fabric for CaHRH, plus 2 more pieces, a couple of packages of needles and Deb threw in 2 freebie charts.

Chickie left me a couple of “presents” in the basement. We’re having a little chat tonight about that.

I had a wonderful day- I hope you did as well.

Garden Grew update:

Still finishing up on page 4.

Here's a close up of the violet (pansy?)- the leafy stuff I had to move:

GG11 macro

I think that's a hybrid bunny/squirrel. There are lots of those little bees all over the design.

Here's the latest on BBD March stocking #2:

Mar 06

I'm stitching it upside down next to the other one because I'm a cheap Yankee bitch.

Emily's new BF out in sunny Californeea made this out of two horse shoes:

horse heart

Isn't that nice? He should SO sell them & make a fortune.

I went up to ride but had to give Jodi & Ruth a hand with Ruth's horse- they think she has an abscess.  My stomach has been queasy all afternoon, and Axe was napping, and it started raining so I talked myself out of riding.

I even managed to take Toil & Trouble out today at lunch. I was dreadfully over tired, but couldn't take a nap. Damn Tami Hoag book until 1:40 am last night!:T&T14

Haven't finished the "N" in "cauldron", but if you see any typos, now's the time to let me know!

PS-

Haven't mentioned the horsie lately because she's been really good for me- we've been having awesome (for me) workouts, aside from a couple of bitter cold days I just couldn't bear to get on.

Give Thanks...

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. I hope you all enjoyed good food, good company, good weather and good traveling.

Bob came hours earlier than I expected, so I never even got the house cleaned. He did help with preparing the stock  for the gravy, though; and when I came back from a coffee run, Chickie greeted me at my door like this:

chickx4

chickx5

Isn't that cute? It's like a Christmas turtleneck!

Later, after the tryptophan kicked in:

You thought I was kidding when I said she crawls up my nostrils??!!!

My reward for doing all the dishes:

DSCN6185

Flat Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream!

Remind me to post my recipe for Slow Cooker Stuffing- when I went looking for how I did it last year, I realized I never followed thru on posting as promised last year. I was very pleased with how it turned out. Emily called & said the peanut butter filled cupcakes were good, but the filling kind of overpowered the cake - the cake was good, and the filling was good, but they kind of didn't work together. I'm thinking I'll have to hunt for a different type of chocolate cake recipe.

Off to snooze on the couch.

Thank you to all my new in-person and virtual friends!
